Programs and services that Nillumbik Youth Services are involved in:

 

NYP outreach

Once a week, a staff member heads out with volunteers to discuss youth issues and distribute information to young people at schools, skate parks, music events and other areas where young people gather.

 

NYP youth engagement barbeques

We hold barbeques in the outer regions of Nillumbik to establish contact with young people in the areas of: St Andrews, Kangaroo Ground, Yarrambat, Panton Hill, Research and North Warrandyte.

 

NYP disount card

This is a membership-based discount card for young people aged 12 to 25 who live, work or study in the Shire of Nillumbik. We currently have over 2000 members who receive regular information and updates on current events and have access to 20 discounts at businesses in the Nillumbik Shire.

 

iNSIGHT

iNSIGHT is a creative arts program for young people aged 12 to 25 years who either live, work or study in the Shire of Nillumbik. The program develops and strengthens young people's skills in photography, writing, visual and creative arts. 

 

Youth News

Our youth newsletter that provides information on upcoming events, youth programs and services the community has to offer for young people.

 

S-Press newsletter

We mail this out weekly, along with a copy of Youth News Online, to 150 NYP card holders. We systematically mail this out to all NYP members, meaning each card holder receives a copy of S-Press approximately every three months.

 

NYP website

Our website provides young people with access to information, services, agencies and resources. We also provide a calendar of events, news items, photo galleries, program information and forums, where young people can stay connected and give us their feedback and opinions.

 

Grant Makers

This program is for young people aged 15 to 20 years who live in the Shire of Nillumbik. The young people participate in the decision making process of the Nillumbik Youth Support Grants.

 

Youth Support Grants

These grants are to assist local volunary and community groups to increase youth participation and develop new after hours programs for young people. A grant pool of $10,000 is available with maximum individual grants of $3,000. Decisions on funding are made by the young people participating in the Grant Makers program.

 

FReeZA events

Two local youth FReeZA committees organise and manage drug and alcohol free music events. Committee members gain experience in the music industry, learn community development and event management skills.

Rock the Hill

A live music event held four times per year at the Panton Hill Hall.

National Youth Week

This is a collaborative project with Yarra Plenty Regional Library to stage the 'Get Loud' music event at the Eltham Library during Youth Week.

 

Skate parks

Northern Western Skate & BMX Titles: We link with 12 other local Councils to run skate and BMX competitions for under 13, under 16 and open divisions at each of the local Council's skate park facilities.

We are developing an advisory group of young people to help run the Diamond Creek skate park and local events held at the venue.

 

Festivals

We participate in the following festivals each year:

  • Eltham Rotary Town Fair
  • Diamond Creek Rotary Town Fair
  • Hurstbridge Wattle Festival
  • On The Hill - Panton Hill Festival 

Back up

This is an early intervention program for young people in the Banyule and Nillumbik regions who are cautioned or charged by Police. Young people and/or their parents are given the opportunity to be linked into a network of support/community agencies.

 

Working community

We liaise with students from Eltham High School and Diamond Valley College to support and facilitate student involvement in community projects.

 

Student and community involvement

We employ a school based new apprentice in the area of Administration. We also have student placements at various times, have a group of volunteers that assist with NYP outreach and many local businesses who support the NYP discount card.

Community partnerships

We play a major role in the Banyule Nillumbik Youth Services Network (BNYSN), which is the leading connecting body for youth services in the region. The network covers many issues affecting young people and workers in a range of fields. The purpose of the BNYSN includes:

  • Identify gaps in service provision
  • Service planning
  • Information sharing
  • Professional development
  • Proactive lobbying at local, regional, state and national levels.

  • Same Sex Attracted Youth
  • JPET
  • Alternative Education Working Group
  • Banyule Nillumbik Local Learning and Employment Network committee of management.
