Youth Employment Program
The Youth Employment program is run in conjunction with Trades Hall, the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, and Holmesglen TAFE.
Two taster programs are to be run early in 2010: Automotive (panelbeating, spraypainting, car detailing) at Kangan Docklands, and Building (bricklaying, tiling, plastering) at Holmesglen TAFE.
Both are six week programs, with candidates to receive a certificate of attainment. The program will include work placement with potential employers.

Young workers lack experience and are generally unfamiliar with workplace procedures. Too often they don't know what their rights are, are too frightened to speak up and are less likely to belong to a union.

Slingshot Community Enterprise and Employment Centre
If you are aged between 18 and 29 years and have an interest in running your own business, developing a self-employment idea, and want skills to do it; become a member of the Slingshot Community Enterprise and Employment Centre. They provide an environment for young people who have not had the opportunity to establish or develop their own enterprise. They focus on those who face barriers to education, skills development and employment. Services include: access to technology; guest speakers; networking; training; mentoring; incubator, tenancy and workstations; loans; and social enterprise.
