Dealing with Exam Stress

Exams are a time when stress levels are higher than usual. Stress can be positive, helping students to stay motivated and focused. However, too much stress can be unhelpful – it can make you feel overwhelmed, confused, exhausted and edgy. It's important to try and keep things in perspective for and to find ways of reducing stress if things seem to be getting on top of you.

For some tips on how to prepare effectively for exams, do your best during the exams and cope with the aftermath visit the Reach Out website.

Get paid to learn something you love!

An apprenticeship is more than just a piece of paper. You can earn while you learn, and thousands of jobs are available. An apprenticeship is a great way to gain a nationally recognised qualification that will improve your ability to enter the workforce or enhance your career or job prospects.

In most industries, an apprenticeship can be full-time or part-time, or school-based and you do not require any entry level qualifications to get started.

Apprenticeships for people under 20

If you are under 20 years, a citizen, permanent resident of Australia, or other specific category holder, you are guaranteed a government subsidised training place for a pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship or traineeship through the Victorian Training Guarantee. If you want to begin training while still at school, you can complete a School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship.  This combines practical experience in the workplace, formal training with a registered training organisation and school studies. A School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship may also be credited towards a VCE or VCAL.

Apprenticeships for people over 20

From Saturday1 January 2011, if you are over 20 years, a citizen, permanent resident of Australia, or other specific category holder, and are interested in commencing an apprenticeship, you will have access to government subsidised training through the Victorian Training Guarantee, regardless if you have any prior qualifications.

Listen out for the new apprenticeship radio commercials on air at the moment, and discover how you can get paid to learn something you love.

For more information visit the Youth Central Apprenticeships and traineeships section.

The Pavilion South Morang

The Pavilion is an alternative re-engagement school that targets young people 14-20 years that are completely disengaged from education. The School was launch in 2007 in partnership with Berry Street Victoria and Banksia LaTrobe Secondary College.

Many of you that have referred to the Pavilion School this year, would be aware we have been running over capacity and consequently unable to offer a great deal to a wait list of around 30 referrals. Many would also be aware in light of this the school has made arrangements to launch a new South Morang Campus in 2010. This campus will be based at the The Edge Centre Whittlesea Youth, Westfield Plenty Valley Shopping Centre in Mill Park/South Morang.

The Pavilion has a population of students that reside in that locality that will come to the new campus, but that means we are in a position to offer a number of new places for the South Morang Campus.

They are currently receiving referrals and undertaking intakes for the new campus which we envisage will fill quickly.

Referrals can be made on the website at The Pavilion School website (please save it in Word 03-07 as we have old version) or phone Stuart Edwards on 9459 1620.
