'HEAR ME' project: Artist interviews by local young person Sholto
Hear Me was an installation of quotes by young people from local schools displayed in shop windows, fences and trees flowing down the main street of Hurstbridge. Below are two interviews that Sholto, a local young person did with people in the community about Hear Me.
Interview with Maitreyi: local artist and teacher
Sholto: What did you think about the project?
Maitreyi: I really enjoyed my walk. I like children’s art and appreciate what they had to say.
Sholto: Do you think this is a good way for children to be heard?
Maitreyi: I think it is one way. Each person can interpret them for themselves in a non confrontational way of communication between children and adults. I am a very visual person and would love to see more pictures.
Sholto: Do you think we should do this again?
Maitreyi: I’d love to see the township of Hurstbridge to be an open gallery to see and hear the voices of different sectors of the community. Perhaps next time, larger areas in shop windows could be allocated to the project so that the children’s art work could have greater impact on the public.
Interview with Derek: local resident
Sholto: What did you think about the project?
Derek: At first I thought it was graffiti but then I thought ……Wow! They are very good quotes by children. Sometimes we don’t really listen to children and it made me think.
Sholto: Do you think this is a good way for children to be heard?
Derek: Yes. It was very visible and hung at the right height. The location was great hanging along the walking path on trees and fences.
Sholto: Do you think we should do this again?
Derek: Yes. I would like to see more pictures. Sometimes pictures can express better than words.
