Young volunteers in action

The Nillumbik Bushfire Recovery Team was delighted to welcome a group of Year 9 students from Our Lady of Sion College, Box Hill for five days in July as part of their community service unit. The girls were fantastic volunteers assisting residents on fire-affected properties in St Andrews and at the Bushfire Support Centre in Hurstbridge. Everyone who met the girls and benefited from their hard work were extremely impressed with their ‘can-do’ attitudes and genuine interest in the recovery efforts. One of the girls summed up her experience by saying that the people that she met ‘taught us lessons that school can’t’.
