Every year Eltham High School has a staff against student basketball match. Posters and flyers are all around the school announcing the date and asking people to come and give their support. It’s held at lunchtime and students are free to come and go to watch the game. The year 12 students who make up the basketball team assemble in the show court and then the staff enters as well. Both teams start to warm up while the students pack into the stadium to watch the match, music is blaring through the speakers and not only the players but the student audience are getting pumped for the game.
When the two referees enter and the ball is thrown up, the audience, (made up of students and teachers) coaches of both sides and players were all in the heat of the game. Music continued to play through the speakers throughout the game. The crowd cheered whenever a goal was scored or when someone stole the ball. It was all pretty intense, but by half time the teachers were up by a few goals. Once both sides had had their little pep talk, the next half started. It was even more exhilarating then the last half, students and teachers alike were sweating so subs were called every now and again. The students put up a good match for the teachers but in they end the students were defeated. I wonder what will happen next year????
