Blog: Band Camp (September 2009)

One the last three days of term three I went to a school band camp. It is our very own school band goes on a bus trip to a camp and practise to perform a concert for a primary school. We left on Monday and hopped on the bus to head to Mornington Peninsula, Manyung camp with Bundoora Secondary school.

When we got there we were greeted by the kind staff there and shown to our rooms. They were awesome! They had automatic lighting and cool beds. We settled in and then got straight to practise.

The food was amazing there. We had a healthy dinner and lunch everyday as well as breakfast. We worked heard rehearsing songs that we were to perform as well as bonding with our new Bundoora friends. I met some great people there and I enjoyed the camp very much.

One night we had a talent show and me and my friend Alex went in. I was Alex’s assistant while she drank a cup of water, tomato sauce, pepper, salt and vegemite all mixed together. Sadly we did not win. But we did discover some very beautiful voices and playing skills. We got to go on one of there activities. Our choices were vertical challenge, flying fox, giant swing and the high ropes course. I chose the flying fox because I am not that great at heights. I had a blast.

One the last day we headed to Somerville primary school to perform. We set up and then in they came. We played some songs they would know and some other songs. I think that they enjoyed it a lot. Then the school captains came up and said they loved having us there and to thank us, they sang there own little song. I thought it was very cute. So we drove the bus to an oval to have our last lunch and then said goodbye to our Bundoora friends and swapped numbers and email addresses.

When we arrived home I think we were all a bit sad to leave but we were happy to be back home again.
