You may have seen my previous book reviews but this time around I thought about writing something new, different and out of the ordinary…a restaurant review.
Recently my mother, my father, my friend, her mother and myself visited Swipers Gully Restaurant. A hospitality training centre for Eltham College students and you will be surprised to know all meals are cooked, presented and served by young students. Located at 25 Eltham-Yarra Glen Rd, Kangaroo Ground (Melways Ref. 23 A1) it is just up the road from Eltham College as you head on your way through to Kangaroo Ground.
The food is incredible and a large selection of wonderful wines is available. Don't worry, your wallet won't feel empty afterwards as prices are very reasonable. They open during the public school terms, from Monday to Friday, and you must make a booking before hand.
We arrived and straightaway we were escorted into the building and were welcomed by young students. Seated and ready to order we looked at our menus. The range of delicious dishes that were available was a perfect amount. A menu is below!

Monday to Thursday Dinner Menu
Starters
Caesar salad ~ with a poached quail egg, croutons, pork lardons, parmesan and anchovy mayonnaise.
Gravlax of salmon cornets ~ citrus cream cheese wrapped in cured salmon on vegetable nori, chilli and avocado mousseline.
Main Fare
Noisette of lamb ~ with gratin dauphinoise, braised puy lentils, spinach and baby leek.
Seared marlin ~ on open lasagne with roasted pumpkin and pinenuts, slow roasted tomatoes and sweet corn puree.
Side Dishes

Afters
Candied ginger & lime mousse ~ with saffron baby pears, pineapple and chilli shooter.
Soft centred chocolate fondant ~ with sweet balsamic strawberries, almond tuille and coconut ice-cream.
